Bell Aliant expanding FibreOp to Sturgeon Falls, Ont.

Bell Aliant Inc. is expanding its FibreOp fibre-to-the-home network to Sturgeon Falls, Ont., the company said.

Bell Aliant, which BCE Inc. has 44 per cent stake in, expanded the network last month to Bay Roberts, Carbonear, Torbay, Portugal Cove-St. Philip's and Clarenville, N.L.

The company said in a release Tuesday the Sturgeon Falls expansion would cost $2.5 million to bring the service to 4,000 premises.

Bell Aliant reports fall in profits

Bell Aliant Inc. reported a profit of $81 million for the three-month period ending Sept. 30, falling $7 million from the same time period a year earlier.

The company, which is controlled by BCE Inc. through a 44 per cent stake, said in a release Thursday that its operating revenue for the third quarter was $695 million, falling 0.4 per cent from $697 million at the same time a year earlier.

Bell Aliant expands FibreOp in N.L.

Bell Aliant Inc. is expanding its FibreOp fibre-to-the-home network to Bay Roberts, Carbonear, Torbay, Portugal Cove-St. Philip's and Clarenville, N.L., the company said.

Bell Aliant, which is controlled by BCE Inc. through a 44 per cent stake, said in a release Tuesday that the expansion will cost $12 million. Through the expansion, the network will reach a total of 125,000 premises.

BCE may buy out Bell Aliant after 2015: analyst

BCE Inc. may try to acquire full ownership of Bell Aliant Inc. to boost its free cash flow and shareholder dividends, likely sometime after 2015, RBC analyst Drew McReynolds said.

In a research note released Thursday, McReynolds said BCE, which currently owns a 44-per cent stake in Bell Aliant, could attempt to buy out the remaining 56 per cent in the company to support future growth opportunities following its recent acquisition of Astral Media Inc.

Bell Aliant extending FibreOp to North Bay

Bell Aliant Inc. is expanding its FibreOp fibre-to-the-home TV and Internet service to North Bay, Ont., the company said.

In a release Wednesday, Bell Aliant said it will spend $13 million to roll out its fibre network past 20,000 buildings and residences in North Bay.

The move will allow the company to offer fibre-based Internet and TV services, the company said, with Internet download speeds of up to 250 Mbps and uploads of up to 30 Mbps.

The company did not say by when the rollout will be complete.
